About Us

About the Fitness to Practise Department

The Department receives and investigates concerns about registrants’ fitness to practise (FtP) and protection of title offences and provides an adjudication function through the  HCPC Tribunal Service (HCPTS). We employ around 130 people, who are collectively responsible for the delivery of the HCPC’s FtP and adjudication work. We manage an open caseload of approximately 1,900 FtP cases.

FtP, in this context, describes the process we use to investigate concerns that are raised about our registrants’ conduct, competence, health or character.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join the new and growing fitness to practise legal team. You will be part of a new team we are establishing to conduct investigations into concerns where a registrant may have fraudulently or incorrectly gained entry onto our register (“FIE”).

Details about the scope of the role is included in the job description. But in summary, in your role, you will:

  • Investigate allegations of fraudulent or incorrect entry to our register. You will proactively progress enquiries by obtaining evidence and preparing cases for hearings.
  • Assess interim order (“IO”) risk and prepare IO applications, where necessary, with legal or operational management supervision.
  • Ensure that you adopt a compassionate approach to the regulation of our professions by adapting your communication method and frequency and using a compassionate tone when communicating with parties to a case.
