Job description
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional to join our Office Services team. This role will develop, manage, supervise, and coordinate related aspects of the department and organisation's Health and Safety (H&S) Management Systems, ensuring and monitoring compliance with legislation, while promoting Health and Safety across the organisation. The role will also manage the Reception team and the related front-of-house services. The HCPC is located in Kennington, this role will be office-based; with some opportunity for home working.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
- Delegated responsibilities, and management of the organisational H&S Policy.
- Providing safety assurance and advice to Senior Management.
- Develop, implement and maintain an effective H&S Management System(s) commensurate with ISO standards and aligned with attaining accreditations (for example ISO 9001, 45001,41001, and 14001).
- Develop a programme of regular H&S site inspections/audits, prepare and present information, and work with management and the organisation to implement any requirements.
- Develop and coordinate a yearly H&S action plan and longer-term H&S roadmap. Report monthly updates to Senior Management.
- Ensure the organisation demonstrates all related legal and statutory compliance requirements and that audit-related documentation and records are accessible and up to date.
- Investigate and report on incidents, dangerous occurrences, ill health and near misses.
- Develop and deliver training programmes related to health and safety and the workplace environment based on needs analysis, working with the wider organisation.
- Ensure all employees at all levels are appropriately trained and know responsibilities.
- Facilitate all forms of risk assessment, e.g., general, manual handling, COSHH, RAMS and fire prevention and monitor and maintain the “permit-to-work” system. Acting as a final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments, including those performed by others on site.
- Advise and assist, remote and office-based staff on all related aspects of the organisation's H&S systems and procedures.
- Monitoring and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness and implement new protective and preventative measures as required by law.
- Continually improve and promote the health and safety, ethos and culture at all levels in the organisation and stakeholders.
- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety at work, and legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business and implement adjustments to maintain best practices.
- Manage and develop the Reception Team to support the administration of the department's service and compliance functional requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring the Reception Team provides and maintains a high quality, secure, professional customer service experience.
- Ensure adequate workforce management within the Reception Team to ensure a smooth-running Reception service.
- Design, implement and monitor processes, procedures and standards for activities which support and enhance the operation of the Reception Team.
- Ability to evaluate and manage supplier performance. Budgetary approval experience to a value defined by the Head of Department and aligned with HCPC Financial Policy.
- Ability to support and deputise for the Head of the Department, carrying out specified tasks as required and when unavailable.
To be considered for this role, you should have the following qualifications and skills:
- A bachelor’s degree or qualification(s) in occupational H&S or a relevant field.
- A minimum of three years experience in managing and delivering H&S systems and projects in a similar organisation or industry.
- A certification, accreditation or experience in one or more of the following ISO standards: 9001, 45001,41001 and 14001.
- A thorough knowledge of the legal, statutory and regulatory requirements for managing Health and Safety and compliance
- A proven ability to conduct audits, inspections, generate reports and statistics, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to provide guidance and advice at various levels internally and with external stakeholders.
- A proficiency in using Microsoft and industry related software applications, to record, manage and demonstrate progress.
- A personal commitment to H&S, quality, excellence and culture.
- Leadership and management skills, and the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- A flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic environment.
