Celebrating Black History Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the HCPC

At the HCPC, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment where education, awareness, and community are central to everything we do. This October, we marked two important causes – Black History Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month – by hosting an inspiring talk with guest speaker Nellie Roberts.

Nellie, a respected advocate and breast cancer survivor, shared her powerful story of resilience, strength, and hope. She spoke candidly about her journey, emphasising the importance of early detection and self-care, while celebrating her heritage and the vital role it played in her recovery. The event not only raised awareness but also highlighted the power of knowledge and community in fighting breast cancer.

Key highlights from the talk
  • Insights on breast cancer awareness : Nellie provided valuable information about breast cancer, from understanding risk factors to recognising early warning signs. She stressed the importance of regular screenings and self-examinations, highlighting that early detection saves lives.

  • Nellie's personal journey : Hearing Nellie's experiences was both eye-opening and moving. She shared the challenges she faced during her diagnosis and treatment and reflected on how her cultural background shaped her resilience. Her story demonstrated the importance of support, self-advocacy, and perseverance.

  • Interactive Q&A session : Employees engaged with Nellie, asking questions and learning about breast cancer. This open dialogue encouraged discussions on how to support loved ones, recognise symptoms, and access resources for further education and assistance.

Why it matters

Events like these are vital in promoting a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and awareness at the HCPC. By bringing attention to these important topics, we aim to foster an environment where every employee feels supported, informed, and empowered to make a difference. We are proud of our diverse community and are committed to celebrating the rich histories, cultures, and stories that shape our workplace.

Looking forward

We are grateful to Nellie Roberts for sharing her story and insights, and to our employees for their active participation and enthusiasm. The positive feedback from this event reinforces our commitment to organising similar engagements that inspire, educate, and build connections within the HCPC family.

At the HCPC, we believe that awareness leads to action. Let’s continue to educate ourselves, support one another, and champion causes that matter to our community.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. We look forward to more enlightening and empowering experiences in the future.
